St Mary’s Church is an historic landmark, tourist attraction and busy parish church which is set in the ancient town of Warwick. People have worshipped on this site for over 1,000 years and our present building is one of the largest and most interesting churches in Britain. We are open every day of the year (apart from Good Friday and Christmas Day) and welcome a large number of visitors from across the world.

We offer a wide range of services from those involving our choirs to others that are quiet and reflective.  Visitors can discover more about those on this website. St Mary’s aims to be an inclusive church, so it’s used by the local community to celebrate baptisms, weddings and funerals as well as significant national events and we welcome people in for concerts, exhibitions and recordings for television and radio as well as the weekly round of worship.

I do hope that you will be able to visit us to explore our Norman foundations in the crypt, look at the Beauchamp Chantry (the finest medieval chapel in England) or gaze from the tower with stunning views over Warwick Castle and the surrounding town. Feel free to take time to pray and be still in this place hallowed over centuries of prayer, or join in any of our regular acts of worship.

Join with us in handing this architectural and spiritual gem onto succeeding generations. One of our pressing challenges at the moment is to raise the funds to restore and maintain this wonderful building. Our Capital Campaign has already raised £1m and is seeking to raise a further £2.4m. We are enormously grateful to all who have contributed so far. If you would like to help, please visit our fundraising section or look out for fundraising events posted here and in our weekly newsletter available from the News & Magazine page.

WARWICK POPPIES 2018

Warwick Poppies 2018 was formally launched in September 2017 and is a massive, yearlong campaign to collect thousands of handcrafted poppies. These will then form a major display within St Mary’s in the autumn of 2018. It will be a huge community tribute to those whose lives have been touched by conflict and it will coincide with the centenary of the end of World War One.

As a minimum, we are seeking 11,610 poppies – one for each of the men from the Royal Warwickshire Regiment alone, who lost their lives in the Great War.

The project Patron is Timothy Cox, Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, and we are very keen to attract support and poppies from the widest possible area. We are already receiving poppies from all corners of the UK and abroad, including the USA and New Zealand. Poppies can be in any format, there are a series of local “Poppy Drop Stations”, and we have storage available – so please get crafty!

The display will be opened at a Gala Dinner on Friday 5th October 2018, and will then be open to the public every day until mid-December.

St Mary’s is proud to be hosting this significant community tribute and we encourage everyone to become involved.

Are you interested in history and meeting people?

Our GUIDING TEAM are looking for more people to join them, to help maintain St Mary’s proud record of being open to visitors every day of the year, apart from Good Friday and Christmas Day.

St Mary's Church with its famous Beauchamp Chapel, attracts 38,000 visitors a year from all over the world and is a major tourist attraction in the area.

Volunteers are needed who can give a regular commitment of as little as two hours a week and who can be a friendly welcome to visitors or, after support and training, become a fully fledged guide.

Volunteers do not have to be expert historians, but a love of historic buildings and people is an excellent start.

If you are interested in becoming a Guide, or would like further information, please ring the Parish Office team on 01926 403940 (option 1) or admin@stmaryswarwick.org.uk

Come along and join our friendly team
